Police identify drug kingpins, 3 tonnes of marijuana seized

Some drug kingpins have been identified and the Fiji Police Force has seized more than three tonnes of marijuana during their operations from the 1st to the 14th of March.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed this to fijivillage News when asked if any drug kingpins have been identified with the recent drug raids across the country’s five divisions.

He says they are working to gather further evidence and information before taking them to court.

The Commissioner says in the Central Division, particularly Kadavu, police raided 15 farms, resulting in five cases of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

He says seven people have been charged and remain in custody.

Tudravu says the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and operational teams have led to successful raids on inter-island vessels, hotels, and private residences.

He says these operations have resulted in the seizure of marijuana and methamphetamine.

The Commissioner adds that seizures of methamphetamine have been in small quantities, however, they are still significant which contributes to the overall intent of cutting the supply chain.

A total 220 drug cases were recorded out of which 188 cases were related to marijuana while 32 cases were related to methamphetamine.
