PSC is investigating comments - Rokovada

Deputy Prime Minister and National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad and Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Jone Navakamocea

As Public Service Commission Chairman, Luke Rokovada confirms that they are investigating alleged racist remarks made by Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Jone Navakamocea on his social media page, Deputy Prime Minister and National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad stresses that there is no place for such racist comments.

Professor Prasad says he is glad this is now under investigation.

He stresses that they are an inclusive government and are focused on delivering services to everyone regardless of race, religion, gender and location.

We have contacted Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka and Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu for comments.

Rabuka says he will not respond to social media utterances while Vasu also says he will not comment on the issue.

Rokovada adds they do not condone such messages.

He confirms their investigation will take about 2 weeks.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Navakamocea said “no comments”.

Navakamocea also chose not to give any comments when questioned if it was his social media post.

Meanwhile, Dialogue Fiji Executive Director Nilesh Lal has strongly criticized Navakamocea where he says it is deeply racist, inflammatory remarks about Indo-Fijians - baselessly accusing them of having global domination agenda, peddling propaganda, and playing the “victim game.”

Lal says public servants are meant to serve all citizens, and not promote racial division.
