Grateful father and LegendFM radio personality Jerry Ligairi is all smiles as he spoke about his son Alexander’s journey to recovery after surgery, at Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

Alex was medically evacuated to New Zealand after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

Ligairi says when Alex left for New Zealand, he could not move or even sit up, and what surprised them was he started eating and just moving around pre-surgery.

He says he is getting updates from Alex’s mother, who went with him from Suva.

He says they were able to get him to start moving around a little bit, at least by wheelchair.

Ligairi says he has now even started talking thanks to the care at Starship Children's in Auckland.

The doting father says the second week at CWM Hospital, when his eyes finally opened and he was still unable to communicate, they were warned that Alex won't be able to talk, he won't be able to see, and he won't be able to hear.

He says the only thing Alex is worried about now is wearing an eye patch and growing his hair back.

Ligairi says Alex’s mother has been pretty much his cornerstone as she has been by his side the whole time thanks to the Ronald McDonald initiative.

He says next for Alex is the Winston Rehabilitation Centre for his physical rehab, so they are looking at probably another month or so for him to stay in Auckland until he gets the strength to come back.

Ligairi has also said for parents who would find themselves in this situation, they can contact him on 7142682 or email him on jeyligairi@gmail.com and he promises he will do his best to try and get them the help that they need.

He says a parent's worst fear is to lose their child, and he is about to come home while another three are with their parents right now in India, and all of this would not have been possible thanks to the good people of Fiji.
