Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has given the reassurance that Fiji is recovering very well.

While speaking to about 500 Fijians in Auckland, New Zealand last night, Rabuka says the figures and data provided by the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank have predicted that Fiji's economic recovery continued to grow in the years to come.

He says we have gone through a difficult patch but we are fortunate to have come through when the world began its recovery.

Rabuka also acknowledged the remittance contribution made by the Fijian community.

He says we may not know how much they earn or how difficult their lives become but we are grateful for their contribution.

The Prime Minister further says the coalition government has inherited a lot from the previous government where they have promised a lot and the current government will have to try to keep those promises.

He says they cannot solve everything overnight, but they are slowly coming to terms with the challenges they have inherited.

Rabuka also encouraged the Fijian community to become very good citizens and permanent residents of Aotearoa.

He is urging the Fijians in New Zealand to observe the laws and regulations of the nation, be very good citizens and maintain Fiji's good relationship with New Zealand.

Speaking on behalf of the Fijian community, Fiji Girmit Foundation of New Zealand Trustees Chair, Sam Archary says the Prime Minister's visit reaffirmed their commitment to working together with the Fiji Government.

He says they look forward to exploring avenues for collaboration and partnership between their communities in New Zealand and Fiji.

Archary adds they are confident that this will pave the way for more enhanced cooperation and mutual understanding.

Rabuka visited the Fijian community at Mahatma Ghandi Centre where he was accorded a full traditional welcome ceremony ahead of his official engagements in Wellington tomorrow.
