Patients in Taveuni will no longer have to travel to Labasa Hospital for X-rays and ultrasound scans following the resumption of services at Taveuni Hospital.
The Health Ministry says the services have resumed following the temporary placement of a Medical Imaging Technologist from CWM Hospital.
The technologist will operate the new X-ray machine and ultrasound equipment commissioned by Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu three weeks ago.
The Ministry says the resumption of these services will make it easier for patients in Taveuni and surrounding maritime communities to access important medical tests without having to travel to Labasa.
This will also allow expectant mothers who require ultrasound scans to access the service in Taveuni.
The Ministry has thanked the Taveuni community for its patience while the hospital was without a Medical Imaging Technologist.
However, it acknowledges that staffing shortages continue to affect medical imaging services around the country.
The Ministry says health workers are continuing to support the delivery of these services while it addresses the wider staffing challenges.
