For families in Salove, Seaqaqa, access to water has become an ongoing struggle, with resident Satendra Nath pleading with the Government to reconsider their application for a borehole as the community feels the impacts of El Niño.
Nath says their water catchment has dried up, leaving families dependent on water deliveries from the Water Authority of Fiji once every two weeks.
He says while the deliveries provide some relief, the water is simply not enough to meet the needs of families and their cattle.
Nath says the community applied for a borehole in 2024 in the hope of securing a reliable water source, but they are still waiting for assistance.
He is urging the Government to look at their application again, saying a borehole would provide much-needed relief for families who continue to worry about having enough water for themselves and their livestock.
Meanwhile, Director of the National Disaster Risk Management Office, Napolioni Boseiwaqa has warned about below-normal rain expected from now until early February next year.
