Concerns have been raised over the Land Transport Authority's mandatory Learner Driver Course for Class 2 Learner Permit applicants, which takes effect from tomorrow.
This comes after LTA announced that all Fijians applying for a Class 2 Learner Permit from tomorrow must complete the mandatory Learner Driver Course before they can sit their Driver Knowledge Test.
Fiji Driving Instructors Association National President Deo Narayan says the industry was not consulted on the changes and is calling on LTA to halt the implementation and consult stakeholders and the public.
Narayan says he and his members are concerned about the new process, particularly the requirement for learners to complete a three-day course.
He says many applicants are school students, young people and working adults who may not have the time to attend because of their studies, work and other commitments.
Narayan believes the changes should have been discussed with stakeholders and the public before being introduced.

Narayan also raised concerns about a policy requiring driving instructors to obtain Trainer of Trainers Level One and Two certificates.
He says while he supports the requirement for new driving instructors applying for a Driving Instructor Permit, it should not be applied to those who already hold valid permits.
Narayan argues that new policies should take effect from the date they are introduced and should not be applied retrospectively.
He is urging ministers to listen to driving instructors and the wider public before making decisions.
Narayan says some driving instructors have suggested seeking an injunction through the courts, but he would prefer LTA to suspend the implementation and carry out proper consultation with stakeholders and the public.
