Sesalina Suliana who is a member of the MATA Dance Crew is determined not to let go of the opportunity of competing at the World Dance Hip Hop Championship next month despite her daily struggles.
Apart from raising her 2-year-old boy, Suliana is also a student at the University of the South Pacific.
The 23-year-old travels all the way from Colo-I-suva to practice.
She says that most difficult part is walking home late at night through the forests since the buses don’t go where she resides.
Suliana says she was always drawn to Hip Hop dancing and she couldn’t let the opportunity of participating on the world stage go.
The Mata Dance group won the Mega Crew Division and Varsity Division in the Hip Hop International South Pacific Qualifier in New Zealand in April this year.
They will represent Fiji at the World Dance Hip Hop Championship next month.
MATA in collaboration with fashion designer, Samson Lee put on a show on Saturday night in aid of the Mata Dance Crew's participation at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
The event was hosted by New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Jonathan Curr at his residence in Suva.
MATA Dance director Tevita Tobeyaweni says he was very grateful to all those who came out to support, highlighting that competing at such a large event is not cheap.
He says that the air fares for the dancers is $48,000 and the total expenditure could be $100,000
