The Fiji Secondary School Soccer Championship kicks off today at Subrail Park and other school grounds around Labasa, with 56 teams set to compete for top honours.
Senior Executive Officer Mohammed Shaid says teams will compete in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys, Under-19 Boys and Open Girls divisions.
Shaid says excitement is building in Labasa, with teams from around Viti Levu arriving in the Northern town since Monday.
He says Labasa is expected to be busy over the weekend as hundreds of students, coaches and supporters gather for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Nakasi High School Open Grade Girls coach Vimlesh Lal says his team is ready for the challenge stressing this is the first time the Nakasi High girls have travelled to Labasa for the competition, and it will be a valuable learning experience for the players.
He says the team played several preparation matches before travelling north to build confidence and prepare for different opponents.
Lal says their main aim is to bring the title back to Nakasi High School, adding that the school has been waiting for a long time to win the championship.
The Fiji Secondary School Soccer Championship will be from today till Saturday in Labasa, with schools from across Fiji battling for the title.
