The Consumer Council of Fiji is warning parents to be cautious with squishy toys after sharing a video of a 10-year-old boy who was taken to hospital when one of the toys burst in his face in Australia.

A family day at the Royal Adelaide Show ended with Mason, the ten-year-old boy being taken to hospital after his mother says an unknown substance from the toy entered his eyes, ears, nose and mouth.

Mason was playing with the toy at a stall on Friday when it suddenly burst.

His mother Amanda says her son began coughing, choking and struggling to breathe after the substance sprayed onto his face.

Mason was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident.

Amanda says her son continued coughing after leaving hospital and was later taken back for X-rays amid concerns that some of the substance may have entered his lungs.

She says one of her biggest concerns is not knowing what was inside the toy.

Amanda claims the stall owner was unable to provide packaging or a product code that could help identify the toy and its contents.

Concerns have also been raised that the toy may have been a counterfeit version, although this has not been confirmed.

Amanda is warning other parents to be cautious with similar toys and is calling for stronger controls to help prevent another child from being hurt.

The Consumer Council of Fiji has shared the incident as a warning to parents in Fiji to be cautious with squishy toys.
