As Fiji celebrates World Teachers’ Day today, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro says the needs of teachers, students, schools and communities remain at the centre of the country’s education system.
Radrodro says teachers deserve reliable systems and timely support, following the recent salary disruption affecting 134 teachers.
He says the Ministry is strengthening its payroll and human-resource systems, reviewing internal processes and tightening checks to prevent similar issues from happening again.
Radrodro says a review has also been carried out by senior officials, with recommendations now being considered.
He says the Ministry continues to work on reforms aimed at improving the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of education across Fiji.
Radrodro says the recently completed Education Commission review also provides important recommendations for the future direction of the education system, which the Ministry is carefully considering.
He says the Government’s responsibility is to ensure every child has access to quality education, every teacher is supported and every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Radrodro says education is not simply about today, but about preparing the next generation to lead, serve and build a stronger Fiji.
Meanwhile, students sitting the 2026 national external examinations have been urged to stay confident and focused, with the Fiji Year 8 Certificate Examination set to begin tomorrow.
A total of 19,141 Year 8 students will sit their examinations from tomorrow until Thursday at 718 centres.
A total of 8,561 Year 13 students will sit the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination from 27 October to 6 November at 174 centres, while 12,388 Year 12 students will sit their examinations from 11 to 23 November at 177 centres.
Radrodro says students should trust their preparation, manage their time well and give their best effort, reminding them that examination results do not define their future.
He also acknowledged teachers, parents and guardians for supporting students and encouraged them to provide patience, guidance and reassurance throughout the examination period.
