Solo Mara has been appointed as the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade following the completion of the Public Service recruitment process.
The Ministry says Mara assumes the position following the expiry of the contract of outgoing Permanent Secretary, Raijeli Taga.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Sakiasi Ditoka Mara says the appointment comes at an important time as Fiji continues to strengthen its diplomatic presence, external trade engagement and international partnerships.
While welcoming Mara to the Ministry, Ditoka says he looks forward to working closely with him and their entire team as they continue strengthening Fiji’s foreign service and ensuring that it delivers effectively for Government and for the people of Fiji.
He also acknowledged Taga for her leadership and service during her tenure as Permanent Secretary.
Ditoka says Taga has led the Ministry through a busy period in Fiji’s international engagement, and he thanks her for the commitment and professionalism she has brought to the role.
He says a three-week handover period will take place to ensure an orderly transition and continuity across the Ministry’s work.
Ditoka says the change in leadership would not interrupt the Ministry’s programme of work, with Fiji continuing to pursue an increasingly active diplomatic and trade agenda.
He says their work continues, adding that Fiji has an increasingly active diplomatic and trade agenda, and they have a responsibility to ensure that their headquarters and overseas missions operate as one team, with clear priorities, strong accountability and a consistent focus on advancing Fiji’s national interests.
Ditoka say they look forward to working with Mara as they build on the work already underway and continue strengthening the Ministry and Fiji’s diplomatic service.
