The livelihoods, food sources, and fishing grounds of residents in Navukavu and Nadonumai have been affected by derelict ships that have remained stranded and rusting in Suva Harbour for years.
This has been highlighted by the Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services of Fiji Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
Ro Filipe says the progress of the work done is unsatisfactory and he is urging the Fiji Ports Cooperation Limited and others who are responsible for the Suva Harbour to hasten because the people are suffering.
He says his Ministry is working hard to make a budget submission to clear the derelict ships in 2 years.
