Hundred of people gathered at Jai Narayan College in Suva to witness a captivating Odissi performance by India’s Suravi Dance Group.

The classical performance depicted Lord Shiva and the childhood form of Lord Krishna, known as Bal Gopal.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka highlighted that it is more than just a performance.

He says classical dance embodies discipline, spirituality and the storytelling of the real world.

Gavoka stressed that the Indo-Fijian community is a living bridge between Fiji and India — a bond built on mutual trust, shared history and enduring ties.

He adds that even though oceans separate us, dance, culture, and art bring us together again.

Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta says such an event allows people to learn about classical performance and enjoy with their families.

Mehta says he is glad that the group came from India to showcase their talent to the Indo-Fijian community.

The dance group is led by Guru Dr. Pitambar Biswal.
