Despite the loss of 60% of its market with COVID-19 shutting down Fiji’s tourism industry, Vuda Pig has reported an increase in local pork consumption of 500%.

Owner of Vuda Pig, Simon Cole says the impressive growth is attributed to the introduction of the company’s Pork Shops.

Cole says they needed to move pork, they are the largest piggery in Fiji, and with 60% of their market suddenly disappearing, they desperately needed new outlets and new customers.

Pork Shops were opened a little over a year ago, first in Vuda, then Suva, and then Rakiraki.

Cole says by increasing the local consumption of pork by 500% there are more customers buying pork than ever before.

He says there is a growing market and they just have to find ways to reach this market to reach it.

Cole says Pork Shops are their way.
