Uruguay fight back to earn 1-all draw against Saudi Arabia

Uruguay fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia in their FIFA World Cup Group H opener in Miami.

Uruguay started strongly and created several early chances, but Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais produced a number of important saves to keep his side in the contest.

Saudi Arabia took the lead in the 41st minute with a goal from Abdulelah Al Amri to put the Green Falcons ahead going into the break.

Uruguay's increased the pressure after halftime, and their persistence paid off in the 80th minute when Maxi Araujo scored a goal.

Uruguay pushed for a late winner, but Saudi Arabia held firm to secure a valuable point.

Saudi Arabia will next face Spain on Monday at 4am before concluding their Group H campaign against Cape Verde next Saturday at 12pm.

Uruguay will take on Cape Verde next Monday at 10am before meeting Spain in their final pool match next Saturday at 12pm.

In other results, debutants Cape Verde stunned Spain with a goalless draw while Belgium came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Egypt.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will face Iran in the next hour.
