SPCA Fiji will lodge a formal complaint with Police after a disturbing video went viral showing a teenager grabbing one of the dogs and throwing it into the air.
SPCA Fiji has strongly condemned the incident, describing the behaviour as disgusting and unacceptable.
It says the dogs were not harming or threatening anyone and were subjected to cruel and unnecessary treatment.
SPCA Fiji says incidents like this could also be one of the reasons stray or roaming dogs become fearful or aggressive towards people.
It says when animals are deliberately teased, chased, frightened or harmed, they can experience severe stress and fear, which may lead to defensive behaviour.
SPCA Fiji is urging people not to harm, tease, chase or provoke animals for social media likes, views, laughs or entertainment, saying such behaviour is cruel and irresponsible and can put both animals and people at risk.
It says it will not tolerate the mistreatment of animals and will continue pursuing the matter until justice is served.
SPCA Fiji has also warned that people who deliberately harm or mistreat animals for online content could face legal action.
It says animals are not props for social media content or entertainment and deserve to be treated with compassion, care and respect.
SPCA Fiji is also calling on members of the public to report any cases of animal cruelty they witness.
