Major jetty renewal and upgrade projects are progressing across Fiji as the Government moves to strengthen maritime infrastructure and support the nation's socio-economic development.
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau says renewal works are continuing at Korolevu Jetty in Rewa and Vunikura Jetty in Cakaudrove Province under a China Grant, while $1.8 million has been allocated for repairs and the installation of fenders at Nabouwalu Jetty.
Ro Filipe says detailed designs for the Natovi, Nabouwalu and Savusavu jetties have been completed, with funding for construction to be negotiated further with the Ministry of Finance.
He says the upgrades will include major improvements to the three berths and passenger facilities.
He adds that feasibility studies and designs for 22 maritime jetties are expected to be completed by the end of 2026 before financing negotiations and the tender process begin.
The Minister says these projects are part of the Government's wider infrastructure programme announced under the Ministry's 2026-2027 National Budget, approved by Parliament last week.
