Fijian banker, Edwin Shankar has been appointed the new Country Head of ANZ Kiribati, subject to regulatory approvals, and is expected to take up the role in early December.
Shankar is currently Director Diversified Industries with ANZ Papua New Guinea and has more than 20 years of banking experience across Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Australia and the wider Pacific.
He will report to ANZ Vanuatu Country Head Sucharu Tandon and succeed Greg Edwards, who has led ANZ Kiribati since 2019.
ANZ Regional Executive Pacific Sarah Stubbings says Shankar’s regional experience, customer relationships and leadership skills will be valuable in the role.
Stubbings says Kiribati remains an important market for ANZ, which is the country’s only commercial bank.
She says the bank remains committed to providing safe, reliable and accessible banking services while investing in its people, expanding digital access and supporting financial inclusion.
Shankar says he is privileged to be appointed to the role and looks forward to meeting customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
Earlier in his career, he served as Head of Treasury and Trade in Solomon Islands and held money market, balance sheet and foreign exchange roles in Fiji.
He holds an MBA Global with Distinction from James Cook University.
Stubbings has also thanked Edwards for his leadership, saying he helped maintain continuity of banking services through a period of significant change.
ANZ says Shankar will undertake a structured handover to ensure continuity for customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
