🚨 Drug Use Fuelling Crime and Health Crisis in Fiji A leading expert has issued a stark warning: Fiji is at risk of becoming a semi-narco state if the rise in drug use and trafficking is not urgently addressed.

📌 Recent data shows nearly half (48%) of new HIV cases in the second half of last year were linked to injecting drug use, while 43% came from sexual transmission — often overlapping with drug-related activity.

This isn’t just a health issue — it’s a national security threat. Drug crime is driving violence, fuelling corruption, and endangering lives in our communities.

Key Facts

Over 50% of youth crimes are drug-related

Crimes against women and children have increased significantly:

- 20% in crimes against women

- 8% in crimes against children

- 68% of child crimes are sexual offences

- 89% of crimes against women are assault-related

Community-led awareness reduces drug abuse

In Kadavu, community leaders have initiated ‘Cagi Vou ni Ceva’ to fight drugs, earning strong support from the Police and government stakeholders.

Support services are now accessible nationwide

Drug support services including counseling, helplines, and rehabilitation are now available across all divisions in Fiji.
