The Attorney General said the e-ticketing system for bus passengers will only start in the country when the interoperability issue is resolved.
This is to ensure that a passenger can use any bus e-ticket for any e-ticketing machine.
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was responding to a question raised by Opposition MP Prem Singh on why the e-ticketing system stopped in March 2013 after it was successfully trialed in 2012 involving students enjoying bus fare subsidies.
Sayed-Khaiyum said three different suppliers - Vodafone, Digicel and Bula Mai Fiji are using different e-ticketing systems.
He added that they are yet to reach an agreement as meetings continue with them.
He also said the government has put in a new law to govern the area of e-ticketing.
Opposition MP, Anare Vadei then claimed that taxpayers funds have been wasted in this project.
However Sayed-Khaiyum said taxpayers funds have not been used in this project.
