With the new commercial trading and liquor hours now in effect and special zones for shops, nightclubs, taverns and restaurants set up in Suva and Nadi, the government believes this will bring more good news for the tourism industry.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the new trading hours will be a huge benefit for visitors and traders alike.
The retail and commercial trading hours for the whole of Fiji has been extended to 9pm daily, while the liquor trading hours has been extended for all the different categories. This sees nightclubs in designated areas in Suva and Nadi open until 5am daily.
For liquor trading hours, hotels will be allowed to sell liquor 24 hours Monday to Sunday, taverns will be allowed to sell liquor from 11am to 1am daily, restaurants will be from 11am to midnight, nightclubs 5pm to 1am daily and liquor stores or off-premises will be allowed to sell alcohol from 8am to midnight daily and for club use like the Defence Club or the Fiji Club liquor trading hours will be 9am to 1am daily.
Cabinet has also agreed to set up two special zones, one in Suva and one in Nadi.
In the Suva City and Nadi Zones, shops can trade for 24 hours and nightclubs can sell liquor from 5pm to 5am.
Restaurants and taverns can also sell liquor until 3am daily.
