Qarase appears in Fiji Court of Appeal

Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase appeared in the Fiji Court of Appeal today in relation to his appeal against sentence and conviction.

Qarase is serving a one year prison sentence for six counts of abuse of office and three counts of discharge of duty with respect to property in which he has a private interest in relation to the Fijian Holdings Limited case.

Acting President of the Fiji Court of Appeal Justice William Callanchini today told Qarase’s lawyer Tupou Draunidalo and the FICAC lawyer Vincent Perera to come to an agreement on a hearing date on the appeal.

Justice Callanchini has put both counsels on notice and if they do not come up with a date by Friday, he will fix a date convenient to the court.
