Whippy tombstone unveiled in Bua

Whippy tombstone unveiled in Bua
There was not enough appreciation given to David Whippy, the man who contributed a lot to Fiji in the 1800's.

Those were the sentiments of the President of Fiji, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau who was in Wainunu, Bua today during the unveiling ceremony of the first Whippy, David Whippy's tombstone.

Ratu Epeli said although this is history to many, he believes while the study is in progress about Whippy's life in Fiji there should be a book written about him.

Ratu Epeli said Whippy came to Fiji as a trader in 1817 as a 16 year old worked closely with the chiefs of Bua on the sandalwood trade and also had friends like the Tui Levuka and Ratu Seru Cakobau.

The President said Whippy's contribution should be appreciated.
