Fiji has the second highest prevalence rate of Human Papilloma Virus in the world.
This is according to Minister of Health Dr Neil Sharma at the launch of the HPV vaccine for Class 8 girls in Fiji.
Cervical cancer which the HPV vaccine reduces is number one on the list of cancers affecting women in Fiji.
Meanwhile, in addition to the new vaccine introduction, AusAID will also be supporting a project to strengthen disease surveillance at Mataika House to evaluate the impact of vaccines in Fiji.
