A $3.5M project to expand its services on elderly care is being undertaken by the Home of Compassion in Tamavua.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Sister Annette Green of the Sisters of Compassion highlighted the great need behind the construction of the two new wings for the home.
According to project contractor Grenzone Fiji Limited, the two new wings will accommodate 33 more beds, with certain parts of the facility also built at a two storey level.
The design of the facility will be disable and elderly friendly with wheelchair ramps also being installed for easy mobility for the residents.
The facility will be built on a 2,000 square meter piece of land and the project is largely funded by the Mother Aubert Home of Compassion Trust Board New Zealand.
The construction is expected to be completed by mid April next year.
Meanwhile, today’s ground breaking ceremony was done by First Lady Adi Koila Nailatikau, Archbishop of Suva Peter Loy Chong and Sister Annette Green.
