Just a day after Tourism Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stated that the overseas media were creating a false picture of the situation in Fiji after Hurricane Tomas another report has been highlighted in the NZ media today.
It has been reported that Waqa Iliesa from Ketei village in Totoya in the Lau Group, said that the nearby village of Udu was not so fortunate, and 100 people are living in four houses.
Fijivillage spoke to Navesi Primary School Head teacher, in Udu village, Josese Salabiau today, who said the report is incorrect.
Salabiau added that 10 houses in the village were completely destroyed.
He added that most of the vegetation in the village has been destroyed, and the villagers are eating whatever breadfruit is left on the trees and cassava that they have buried to last them for the next few weeks.
The Naval vessel Kikau has already visited the village and they expect their food rations to arrive soon.
