Fiji has stopped importing potatoes, tomatoes and capsicum from New Zealand because these commodities were found carrying bacteria.
Information officer in the Ministry of Primary Industries Vinesh Prasad said the action was taken to safeguard Fiji from the bacteria.
According to Prasad, Fiji will now import potatoes from Australia while they are now concentrating on producing tomatoes and capsicum locally.
Prasad said importing potatoes from Australia will cost slightly more compared to importing from New Zealand.
