Man gets 15yrs for raping 3yr old girl

A 47 year old man charged with the Rape of a 3 year old girl was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Suva High court this afternoon.

The court has issued a name and identity suppression order since the man is the victim's uncle.

He committed the offence in April last year.

After the trial the assessors unanimously found the man guilty as charged.

Judge Justice Sitabarampillai Thurairaja while sentencing him said that he was 44 years older than the victim and the crime he has committed is a gross breach of trust of an uncle.

He will be eligible for parole after serving 11 years of his sentence.
