150 jobs have been created with the opening of new gift shops, restaurants and other retail outlets in Sigatoka Town this year.
Town Council CEO Anand Pillay said more than 30 new shops have opened in their town this year and they are progressing well.
He said the council has received $1.91 million this year from existing businesses and new businesspeople doing renovations, alterations or constructing a new building.
The amount collected last year was around $260,000.
Pillay said the major boost in people wanting to open businesses in Sigatoka now is due to the increasing tourist attractions.
He said every week they are receiving 2 to 3 applications for new business licenses which is good to see as the town needs more investments going into next year.
