Warwick Resort workers form new union
The Warwick Resort and Spa Hotel workers have formed a new workers union after a lot of issues they had taken up to their old union, Fijian National Union of Hospitality Catering and Tourism Industries Employees, were not answered.

Coral Coast Tourism Catering Workers Union General Secretary Kalaveti Batibasaga said after years of raising concerns with the Daniel Urai led union, they have decided to form this union to look after hotel workers in the coral coast area.

Batibasaga said the Coral Coast Tourism Catering Workers Union is registered with government and currently has members from the Warwick Resort.

According to Batibasaga today they met with the Ministry of Labour’s mediation unit after their employer raised concern on the clauses of the collective agreement.

Regional Human Resources Director for Warwick Resort and Spa Hotel Uraia Rasake said they have agreed with the consent of the mediator that they will go back to the negotiating table to discuss the issue further.

The two are expected to be back at the Ministry of Labour’s mediation unit at the end of this month.
