Water shortages make Diwali preparations difficult for families in Tavua – Narayan
With Diwali just around the corner, Biren Narayan of Yaladro, Tavua, says the ongoing dry spell and water shortages are making it difficult for some families to prepare for Diwali.

Narayan says many families are preparing for Diwali by cleaning their homes and making sweets, but water shortage is making it difficult.

The 86-year-old says they are receiving water but the pressure is low, making it difficult to carry out essential household activities such as cleaning and cooking, especially during the festive season.

Narayan says families already struggling with water shortages could face further difficulties as Diwali approaches.

He highlights that Diwali is not only about lighting diyas and decorating homes, but also about sharing happiness, showing kindness and helping those in need.

Narayan says that despite the dry spell he wants to make this Diwali memorable with his family and grandchildren.

Narayan says the festival is a reminder of the importance of unity and supporting one another, particularly during difficult times.

Diwali will be celebrated next Sunday, 8th November according to the Hindu calendar, while the public holiday will be observed on Monday, 9th November.
