The Reserve Bank of Fiji has recorded a profit of more than $120 million for the 2025–2026 financial year, where more than $117 million will be transferred to the government as part of its budget.
The announcement was made today by RBF Governor Arif Ali, who says this is the fourth consecutive year that the bank’s profits have exceeded $100 million.
He says over the last five years, including this year, the total profits paid to the Government amount to just below $550 million.
Ali says the RBF earns most of its income from interest on Fiji’s foreign reserves.
He says the global environment remains very volatile, while interest rates are also coming down in key markets.
He adds that as a result of lower interest rates, the bank’s income is slightly lower.
The Governor says at one stage, they were expecting a profit of close to $100 million, but an increase in interest rates helped push the profit to about $120 million.
He says almost one-quarter of the bank’s income comes from domestic bond interest and other interest income, while almost 75 percent comes from foreign reserves income.
Speaking during the handover, Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel acknowledged the RBF for completing its financial accounts in two months, rather than the three months stipulated under the Act.
He says the RBF continues to play a vital role in Fiji, not only by generating profits, but also by safeguarding Fiji’s macroeconomic and financial stability while contributing to Government finances.
While welcoming the transfer, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says this is another positive indicator for our economy and further strengthens our confidence in Fiji’s economic outlook.
He says that he is proud of the work being done by the Reserve Bank and our economic institutions, but above all, he is proud of the resilience of the Fijian people.
Rabuka says we have faced significant global challenges together, yet our economy continues to move forward.
He adds that there is more work to do, and they remain focused on building on this progress for all Fijians.
