Speaking during a panel discussion on technology-facilitated gender-based violence in political life, Online Safety Commission representative Joshua Singh says the figures indicate that women continue to be targeted online despite ongoing awareness programmes.
He says 946 complaints were received from women in 2025 compared to 658 from men, while in 2024, 830 complaints were received from women compared to 541 from men.
Singh says women in politics and public office can be particularly exposed to online abuse because they hold positions of influence and speak publicly on issues that may attract strong reactions.

He says people need to know how to protect themselves online, including blocking users, deleting abusive comments and reporting harmful content.
Singh says the Online Safety Commission can also assist people in getting harmful images, videos and comments removed from social media and other online platforms.
He says this includes cases where artificial intelligence has been used to alter or create images of people without their consent.
Singh says the Commission can also refer cases to the Police where it believes the matter meets the threshold for prosecution.
He says removing harmful content can take time, with requests to online platforms sometimes taking several days to be acted on.
Singh made the comments during the Women's Political Participation programme on confronting technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
