Residents of Uciwai Village in Nadi have received water following a disruption that left families struggling without a continuous supply for more than two weeks.
Uciwai Advisory Council representative Mahendra Reddy confirms that two water trucks visited the community this morning, with residents now receiving water.
The update comes after residents raised concerns about the prolonged water shortage, which has affected households as children prepare for external examinations and families get ready for Diwali.
A resident, who requested anonymity, said the community had been experiencing water problems since last year, with the latest disruption leaving families struggling to store enough water for their daily needs.
The resident said there was no alternative water source available and appealed for urgent assistance.
Reddy says Nadi Depot had previously worked closely with the community by increasing water pressure at night, allowing residents to fill their containers and store water until the next supply.
However, he said the arrangement had recently stopped working, prompting residents to seek his assistance.
Reddy also said he had been informed that a pipe was being switched, which he understood would help restore the supply.
The Water Authority of Fiji says Uciwai is an intermittent supply area, with residents supplemented through water carting.
We have sent further questions on when a more reliable water supply can be expected.
