Up to 64 homes in Yasawa-i-Rara, along with a maternity unit, mortuary and cold storage facility, will benefit from a new mobile energy system designed to provide electricity to communities not connected to Fiji’s national power grid.
Marshall Islands Ambassador to Fiji Junior Aini officially switched on the Lyten Voltpack Mobile System in the presence of villagers and members of the Yasawa-i-Rara community yesterday evening.
The system can operate using both solar power and diesel, providing an alternative electricity solution for communities without access to the national grid.
Energy Solutions Pacific Directors Anwa Khan and Frank Hamagushi told villagers that the system has the capacity to power up to 64 homes, a mortuary, a fully functioning maternity unit and a cold storage facility to help preserve their fish catch for longer periods.
Also attending the launch were Lyten Key Account Manager Svilen Keranov and Lyten Global Adviser Ingrid Andersson, who both travelled to Fiji for the occasion.
