After more than two decades of living in the United States, Charanjit Singh has returned to Fiji for a special occasion – reuniting with his primary school classmates after 40 years.
Originally from Ba and now living in Sacramento, California, Singh arrived in Fiji yesterday and says the reunion with his former classmates from Tavarau Primary School is something he has been looking forward to.
He says he and his classmates, who studied together from Year One to Eight, will gather in Lautoka next week for their primary school reunion, adding that meeting his old friends again after four decades is a special moment.
Reflecting on his childhood in Ba, Singh remembers the simple days of going to school barefoot, later wearing KD shoes, and making school bags out of plastic bags.
He says those experiences created many unforgettable memories and strong friendships that have lasted over the years.

Singh moved to Sacramento in December 1999, where he now owns a banquet hall and a Fijian restaurant, which he says was inspired by the demand for authentic Fijian cuisine.
He says the restaurant was established after people attending events at his banquet hall praised the food and encouraged him to share Fijian cuisine with the wider community.
Singh says the restaurant has been operating since 2016 and showcases Fiji's culture and flavours in California.
He says returning to Fiji has brought back many fond memories, and he is looking forward to reconnecting with friends and celebrating their shared journey.
