Man in his 40s dies in Rakiraki road accident
A man in his 40s is the country's latest road fatality victim following a motor vehicle accident in Rakiraki yesterday.

Police says the victim from Ellington in Rakiraki was driving along Naqoro in Rakiraki when a bus driven by a 51-year-old veered onto his lane, resulting in a head-on-collision.

They say the victim was rushed to the Rakiraki Hospital where medical officials confirmed his death.

The passengers travelling in the bus and a 29-year -old woman traveling in the victim's vehicle were treated and discharged from the Rakiraki Hospital.

The suspect remains admitted in hospital.

The national road death toll currently stands at 38 compared to 51 for the same period last year.

Police says in a serious accident at the Namale Junction in Savusavu, a 37-year-old farmer sustained injuries after he was hit by a car driven by a man in his 70s.

Police say the suspect allegedly lost control causing his vehicle to veer off the road and hit the victim.

The victim remains admitted at the Labasa Hospital in stable condition.

Investigations continue.
