The road leading to Matacaucau Village in Tailevu has been maintained, with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) saying it was graded and compacted on July 2nd as part of its routine maintenance programme.
Responding to concerns raised by the village headman during the Fijian Media Association Town Hall Forum in Korovou, the FRA says an inspection carried out on July 5th confirmed the road is fully accessible to Matacaucau Village.
The Authority says its Korovou team has also scheduled drainage improvement and re-sheeting works under its July maintenance programme in preparation for the wet season.

The FRA is encouraging members of the public to report road-related concerns by calling its toll-free number, 5720, so issues can be addressed promptly and effectively.
The Authority says it remains committed to providing safe, reliable and accessible road infrastructure for all road users.

During the Town Hall Forum in Korovou, Matacaucau Village Headman Kameli Ravula said he had repeatedly asked Fiji Roads Authority officials at the Korovou depot to provide just one truckload of gravel to fill potholes along the road.
He said the road was in poor condition and taxi operators were unwilling to provide services to the village.

Responding to the concerns during the forum, an FRA representative assured villagers that engineers would assess the road to determine whether it could be re-gravelled and whether drainage improvements were needed.
An 88-year-old villager also expressed frustration over the condition of the road, saying it has remained in a deplorable state for as long as he can remember.
