The sewer overflow at Sekoula Place in Laucala Beach has been resolved by the Water Authority of Fiji following concerns raised with fijivillage about sewage continuing to flow in the area.
WAF says the overflow was caused by a blockage in the wastewater network resulting from clothing that had been dumped into the system.
It says this is the second such incident recorded in the area within the past five days, with both incidents linked to foreign objects being improperly disposed of in its wastewater infrastructure.
WAF says the wastewater network is designed to carry wastewater only and is reminding people not to dispose of clothing, wipes, plastics, sanitary products and other foreign materials into the system.
It says these materials can cause significant blockages and lead to wastewater overflows, creating environmental and public health risks as well as unnecessary operational and maintenance costs.
WAF is urging people and communities to properly dispose of waste and ensure that only wastewater enters the network.
