More than 205,000 litres of fresh water have been delivered to communities and a school in the Northern Division as authorities continue emergency water carting operations due to dry conditions linked to El Niño.
The water has been distributed to Vunikodi Village, Namukalalau Village and Udu District School, while deliveries have also been extended to Gevu and Kavewa.
The National Disaster Risk Management Office says 90,000 litres were delivered to Vunikodi Village, 55,000 litres to Namukalalau Village and 60,000 litres to Udu District School.
Water delivery to Kavewa Village has also been completed.
NDRMO says the operations are being coordinated through the Office of the Divisional Commissioner Northern, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji.
They say the MLC Vatulawa has berthed at Malau Jetty to support the refilling of water tanks using land trucks and enable the emergency supply operations to continue.
However, NDRMO says delivery to Druadrua Island is still pending, while the planned delivery to Cikobia Island has been postponed due to the Strong Wind Warning issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service.
NDRMO says they are continuing to monitor conditions and coordinate water deliveries to affected communities.
Residents in areas experiencing dry conditions are being urged to conserve water, use available supplies wisely and follow official advisories.
