Lekutu Secondary School has created history by qualifying for the semi-finals of the Fiji Secondary Schools competition for the first time, and are currently taking on Labasa College for a place in the final.
Geography Teacher and Coach Divendra Prasad says the achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players, teachers and coaching staff despite limited preparation time.
Prasad says the team faced tough opposition throughout the pool matches and picked up a few injuries along the way, but the girls remained determined and managed to overcome some strong teams to secure a place in the last four.
He says the team only had two days to prepare for the semi-final because students had to return home after training each day.
Prasad says balancing studies and sports has not been easy, but the players have managed both well, with some also performing strongly in their examinations.
He says the team has full confidence in the girls and believes they are capable of beating Labasa College to secure a place in the final.
Meanwhile, Waidele College will take on Dreketi Central College 12pm today at Labasa Muslim Grounds.
