From rugby to running: Heleina Young targets 100m glory for Fiji

Former Queensland Reds Women winger Heleina Young is trading her rugby boots for track shoes as she prepares to represent Fiji in the women’s 100 metres at the Darwin Oceania Athletics Competition in Australia.

A former sprinter for Saint Joseph's School and ex-Fiji women's national rugby sevens team player, Young has been training with Athletics Fiji ahead of the competition and is aiming to book a place in the finals.

Young will compete alongside former schoolmate Braelynn Yee in the women’s 100 metres later today.

Looking at other events today, the Under 18 Boys'Discus throw will feature David Savea and Setareki Dawai later this evening.

In the women's field event, Abigail Koroi will jump in the Under 18  girls Long Jump in the evening as well.

The Women's 100 metres race will begin at 9.25pm today.
