Drua had chances to win but failed to deliver - Jacko

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua were left regretting missed opportunities after suffering a 21–6 defeat to the Queensland Reds in Lautoka yesterday, with Head Coach Glen Jackson admitting his side “created enough chances to win the game” but failed to deliver.

Speaking after the match, Jackson says the Drua had multiple scoring opportunities, particularly in the first half, but could not convert them into points.

He adds that poor handling and decision-making proved costly, with the team unable to maintain possession and capitalise on attacking chances.

Jackson also acknowledged the physical toll on players, noting the match marked a third consecutive outing for several members of the squad.

Despite the loss, he singled out Elia Canakaivata for his work rate, saying the forward delivered an outstanding 80-minute performance, while captain Frank Lomani led well and controlled play effectively with his kicking game.

Meanwhile, Lomani echoed his coach’s sentiments, pointing to the team’s inability to execute in key moments as a major factor in the defeat.

He adds that while the Drua’s physicality remains a strength, the team must make better use of possession rather than surrendering it too easily.

Looking ahead, Lomani admits the challenge intensifies as the Drua prepare for an away clash in New Zealand, where they will face the Blues this Saturday at 6.05pm.

Jackson says the side must quickly regroup, with tough fixtures against the Blues and the Crusaders looming.
