Australia commits funding for Police headquarters in Veiuto

The Australian Government has committed funding for the development of a permanent headquarters for the Fiji Police Force in Veiuto.

Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua says the development is important for the Force, which has moved from place to place since its establishment 150 years ago.

He says the Government has finally decided to provide the Fiji Police Force with a permanent location, and the Commissioner of Police and him are pleased with the decision.

He adds they are also working on plans with development partners, particularly Australia.

Naivalurua says he is not privy to the figure at this stage but understands it is a significant amount.

He says discussions on the project took place about a year ago and, strategically, the development is the way forward for the Fiji Police Force.
