Fijian runner Yeshnil Karan set a new personal best of 3 minutes and 50.77 seconds in the Men’s 1500 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, improving on his previous mark of 3 minutes and 51.14 seconds.

This was his first race since April and his debut on the world stage, where he was the only athlete across all four heats to clock a PB despite challenging conditions.

The Tavua College alumni delivered a tactically strong race, finishing with a powerful surge in the last 600 metres.

He expressed pride in his performance given his limited preparation due to family commitments, and is now focused on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Coach Atma Maharaj acknowledged his potential, calling the performance an excellent step forward.

Karan also acknowledged his supporters in Fiji and Australia, especially his family, and reaffirmed his commitment to inspiring the next generation of Fijian athletes.
