Weightlifting has been a minor sport in Fiji for many years, but as from 2008 it has gone from strength to strength.
This was highlighted by weightlifting Fiji Vice President Chris Yee.
Yee adds that weightlifting in Fiji is now a sport to be reckoned with, as athletes manage to get medals at every competition they have gone through.
This is also evident with Weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai, Eileen Cikamatana, and Manueli Tulo all winning medals in their respective weight categories at the Commonwealth Championships in Malaysia.
Speaking to Fijivillage this morning gold medalist Apolonia Vaivai says she is very happy with what she has achieved for herself and her team.
Vaivai lifted 93Kg in the snatch and 115kg in the Clean & Jerk for a total of 208kg in the Women's 75kg weight category and won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships last night in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Fiji won a total of 2 gold 3 silver and 4 bronze medals over the past week, in what is the best ever performances by Weightlifting at any International competitions, in its 55 year history.
