We will always look to get the best Fijian heritage player that we can – Drua CEO

We are a Fijian team that will always look to get the best Fijian heritage player that we possibly can from a range of sources.

Swire Shipping Fijian Drua CEO, Mark Evans highlighted this when asked about the club perspective when it comes to promoting players from the development system.

Evans says it is interesting because they are a start-up club and there are 39 players in the main squad with 10 of them coming through the development system.

He says they have only had a development squad for three years, so that is a pretty decent output.

The Drua CEO says Isikeli Basiyalo spent three years in development before he got promoted, while others like Mesake Vocevoce just spent a few months.

Evans says their job is to look locally, to Europe, to people like Temo Mayanavanua, as well as the sevens program for people like Joji Nasova and Ponipate Loganimasi.

He says players like Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula and Isaac Fines-Leleiwasa have come from Australian and New Zealand backgrounds, but are Fijian.

The Drua are currently in their first week of pre-season training at their Base in Nadi.
