French club Toulon is reported to have approached All Blacks lock Sam Whitelock about a move to Europe.
Whitelock who is off contract with NZ Rugby after the All Blacks' tour against the British and Irish Lions would be a prized signing for Toulon who are on the hunt for a world‑class second rower.
If Toulon managed to snare the signature of Whitelock, who has played 84 tests since 2010, it would be considered a blow for NZ Rugby who have recently re‑signed Ben Smith and Israel Dagg.
Whitelock will lead the Crusaders when they take on the Highlanders in the Super Rugby at 6.55pm Saturday.
The Chiefs also clash with the Blues at 6.35pm Friday.
