Tamani’s record jump will not be recognized as a national record - Athletics Fiji
Jasper Williams High School wins the Girls divison at the Lautoka Zone

Athletics Fiji has confirmed that Emily Tamani’s record jump that was reported at the Lautoka Zone last week will not be recognized as a national record.

Tamani of Jasper Williams High School broke the senior girls long jump record with a jump of 6.22 metres. The national record is 6.12 metres.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Athletics Fiji Database Administrator, Eugene Vollmer says that there was no wind gauge at the Lautoka Zone, which means that the distance that Tamani recorded cannot be recognized as a new Fiji Women's national record in the long jump.

Vollmer had earlier said that any wind reading that recorded above 2 metres per seconds will not be recognised as a national record.

He adds that there are procedures in place to ensure that athletes who break National records at other zone meets are recognised.

A total of 37 records were broken at the Lautoka Athletics Zone competition last week.

The Tailevu Zone will be held at the ANZ Stadium tomorrow.

Meanwhile the Coca‑Cola Games will be held from the 20th to the 22nd of next month.
